The Offin Children's Centre was
founded in 1996 by Mary Osei from her own personal
pension fund, accumulated from 23 years of government
service as a teacher and social worker.
The Offin Children's Centre is a
family-based foster home for 67 children aged between 3
and 23 years. The children live in the Centre's
four foster homes with foster parents and participate
fully in the life of the foster family. The
parents of these children are either deceased or unable
to take care of them.
The Centre provides the children
with medical care, food, clothing and education until
they are ready to start their own lives.
How Advent support's the centre...
- 2000: provided funds to
establish a poultry farm. Proceeds from the sale of eggs
and chicken currently cover approximately 30% of the
upkeep of the orphanage.
- 2002: provided funds to help with
the purchase of a 25 seat school bus that transports
tuition-paying day students to the school
- 2005: provided funds to help
bring electricity to the center .
Today: The Outreach
committee sends financial support every quarter Advent
member Liz Kloster spent 4 months in 2006 at the center.
She helped write biographies on each child in the hope
that Mary can find sponsorships for all the children.
She also helped in the classroom, kitchen and sick bay.
The Centre is registered with the
Ghana Ministry of Trade & Industry and the Department of
Social Welfare as a charitable organization. However it
receives no money or support from the Government of
Ghana but depends on donations from churches, charitable
organizations and individuals.
