FELLOWSHIP
Golf Outings
Advent holds two golf outings a year, spring and fall, which are open to all. These are attended by a fairly even split of men and women. The outings are held at a variety of local courses with a scramble format. Every attempt is made to even out the strength of the teams and make it a fun and noncompetitive event for all. We finish each outing with dinner either at the course or a nearby restaurant where token prizes are awarded. The fun and fellowship make these popular events at Advent.
Through the golf season a group of Advent men meet at Pontiac Country Club to play nine holes early Saturday mornings. The group consists of twelve golfers, and we usually end up with one or two foursomes. It’s always a lot of fun to see who can manage a creditable round playing when the sun comes up. We have renamed a number of the water hazards due to errant exploits of various participants. Golf is followed with more fellowship over breakfast allowing a return to family commitments by mid morning.
Advent Bridge Club
Advent bridge players have been meeting to play bridge for the past twenty-five years or more. Two tables or four pairs play in each host home on the first Friday evening of the month, October through May. Currently there are sixteen players, requiring two host homes each month. Numbers have been twice that in past years, and additional bridge players are welcome. Substitutes may be called upon to complete a foursome.
Six hands are played with three different pairs for a total of eighteen hands each evening. Scoring is kept for rubber bridge and winners are awarded at a year-end picnic.
