CHRISTIAN FORMATION

Youth Group

Young people are a vital and integral part of Advent Episcopal ChurchÕs spiritual community. Our mission is to teach and explore the Bible and Christian values to youth in grades 6-12 in a fun and interactive, age-appropriate setting, joining and guiding our children and young adults as they begin their spiritual journey in their Christian community. Following are our core values:

  • Developing a willingness and confidence about inviting others to share in our Christian lives and faith;
  • Nurturing a growing depth of faith, prayer, and knowledge of ChristÕs teaching and a lifelong commitment to worship and service in ChristÕs Church;
  • Establishing a shared and cooperative ministry to and with the families of our young people;
  • Broadening exposure in ministry to and among our neighbors;
  • Developing and reinforcing positive self-image.
  • Sunday Bible Study (Adults)

    Each Sunday we study the lessons prescribed as Eucharist readings for that day from the Revised Common Lectionary contained in the Book of Common Prayer. The historic background, spiritual significance and themes of the collected readings are explored and discussed in depth. Word usage, mannerisms, and cross-referencing of topics are part of the study.

    All are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in this forty minute study of the Old and New Testaments starting at 9:10 a.m. between services each Sunday.

    Wednesday Night Programming

    Education is a big part of Advent. Youth, children, families, and adults are all invited to participate in a wide range of dynamic and exciting programs. One of those opportunities is our Wednesday night programming which begins with dinner and fellowship at 6:30 p.m. followed by a variety of classes from which to choose. There is something for everyone.

    Recent offerings have included Alpha, Dave RamseyÕs ÒFinancial Peace University,Ó ÒThe Gospel and Harry Potter,Ó and ÒSimply ChristianÓ by N.T. Wright. All are led by an educated spiritual leader with the desire to support spiritual growth and enrichment.

    Men's Prayer Breakfast

    The group meets on Tuesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in Sibley Hall for singing, fellowship and spiritual development. The purpose is to grow in the Lord through Bible-based studies and topical discussions and to prayerfully support each other in our daily walk. Manna (bagels and doughnuts) and coffee are provided. Gents, please come and join us. We look forward to being with you.

    Women's Bible Study

    The WomenÕs Bible Study group meets at 10:00 a.m. Monday mornings in Sibley Hall. We are led by a capable spiritual leader. There are twelve active members at this time, with loads of room for more!

    The group chooses among themselves a biblically based course of study. We care deeply for one another and keep each otherÕs confidence. Ladies, join us! You would be so welcome.
