Rite 13: Junior High
Christian Education Program
Rite-13 is our two-year program designed
to build self-esteem in the context of the
Christian community. Lay leaders, clergy and
the congregation at large must work together
to establish a framework for friendships.
Rite 13 not only provides the basics in
Christian education, but allows young people
to explore issues in a safe discussion-based
environment.
Rite 13 Goals include:
- To celebrate God’s gift of manhood and
womanhood.
- To affirm the power of creative energy
and to explore the thoughts and disciplines
which allow individuals to effect change in
the world.
- To teach, by word and example, the
principles of freedom, responsibility and
friendship.
The life of Jesus was relatively short
only 33 years. Still, he sets the example
for all of our lives, whether we are nine or
90, 13 or 33. His pattern of building
relationships, exploring the Holy
Scriptures, obedience, and sacrifice is the
pattern for us all. Using this as our guide,
Rite-13 has three main objectives:
- The task of building a community is
our primary concern.
- We seek to establish relationships which
honor each individual’s particular gifts and
talents as necessary for the life of the
whole group.
- We unfold a basic understanding of the
call of God on all of us to live in
accordance with God’s word as it was
revealed to us in the person of Jesus, and
as it continues to be revealed by the power
of the Holy Spirit, as well as an
understanding.
